memories begin in the Garage
American Idle Garage began with a daughter, her dad, and a lifetime of memories built around classic cars. Long before there was a website, there were weekend drives, cruise-ins, garage conversations, and the stories that seemed to follow every car.
The inspiration
My dad has loved cars for as long as I can remember. From his first car as a teenager to the project cars that always seemed to occupy our garage, automobiles were never just transportation to him—they were a hobby, a passion, and a way of life. There was always something being worked on, improved, restored, or dreamed about. Weekends might find him in the garage with a wrench in his hand, at a local cruise-in admiring someone else’s craftsmanship, or occasionally at the drag strip enjoying the sound and excitement of American horsepower.
Growing up, I never separated my dad from his cars. They were simply part of who he was. Some of my favorite childhood memories involve riding along on back roads, helping hand him tools in the garage, or listening to stories about the cars he had owned over the years. When one of those cars was sold, I cried every time. To me, it felt like losing a member of the family.
More importantly, Dad never kept his passion to himself. He shared it with all of us. Cars became the backdrop for family road trips, weekend projects, cruise-ins, and conversations that stretched across generations. Long before American Idle Garage existed, he was teaching me that cars are more than machines. They carry memories. They connect people. They become part of our stories.
American Idle Garage was inspired by that lifelong love of cars, but even more by the man who shared that love with his family and made it part of who we are.
The cars are still here. The memories just got bigger.

The foundation
American Idle Garage is rooted in the traditions of cruise-ins, local car shows, family gatherings, and the communities built around them. For generations, classic cars have brought people together—not just to admire the machines, but to share stories, friendships, and memories.

The cars are still here.
Now we just see them differently.

The Founder
I’m Lori Lanham, founder of American Idle Garage. What began as a creative project inspired by my dad and the memories we built around cars quickly became something more. As he picked cars and I shared images and stories online, I realized that nostalgia has a way of bringing people together. The memories that shaped my family were the same memories being shared by people across the country.
American Idle Garage was created to celebrate those moments—the project cars, weekend cruise-ins, back-road drives, and the people who made them special. Today, that vision extends beyond digital content and into apparel designed for those who carry those memories with them. Every piece is inspired by the belief that the cars may have brought us together, but it’s the stories behind them that matter most.
Whether you follow our content, wear our apparel, or simply stop by to take a trip down memory lane, welcome to American Idle Garage. We’re glad you’re here.
